Many thanks again to Alan and Joan for providing the video clip of us in action at Fintry Gala day. Pretty awesome!
At our class on Tuesday 30th August we worked on our Luminate Concert playlist. All of the songs are coming along really well, with a few needing tweaks here and there.
Dee Ukes Ukulele Band – Remember the <G7> strike at the end of the last line of each verse. Please score out the words Slow down at the second last line as we naturally slow down on the very last line on uk – ku – le – le .
Cottonfields Version 1.2 – Remember Silent ukes when singing “When I was a little bitty baby my mama would”. Start playing ukes at the word “rock”. Remember to start strumming quietly when the kazoos reach the word “rock”. I find it helpful to look back at the chords/words of the verse we have just sung when accompanying the kazoos. This one just needs practice to come in at the correct times.
Eight Days a Week – We could all try looking up at the single strum sections.
Top of the World – Following the intro of C G C <C> count into yourself 2, 3, 4 before starting to sing. I have added version 1.2 to the website as we have introduced a <G> strike at the end of verses 2 and 5 as well as a <C> strike at the end of verse 6. These all come prior to the words “I’m on the” where we also stop strumming on these three words. Don’t worry if this sounds confusing, we have plenty of time to work on these small changes.
Rockin’ All Over the World – We have taken out one of the lines of chords at the end, so should the end should now read C C7 F D7 C G C <C> It was also suggested we stand for the last 3 sections beginning “And I like it ….”. It would be best to memorise the chords for this as they are pretty easy and we want to concentrate on our rock n’ roll style! We’ll give it a try anyway. 🙂
Side by Side – no problems here.
Roses O’ Prince Charlie – Pretty good. Ann P is going to play her mouthorgan for every chorus. Bette and Pat play the bodhrans on every chorus except the first one. Sounds good. We speeded up slightly towards the end of this one, so we will keep working at maintaining a steady pace.
City Medley Version 2 – Coming along well. The last transition just needs a little more practice. We ended with a tremolo.
We’re No Awa Tae Bide Awa – So that we all start together the intro should read C– G– C– then start singing “Oh we’re …”
Next Tuesday (6th September) I will have to leave just after 1pm, so I will start the class sharp at 12 noon. You can of course carry on practising until 1.45pm. I will also miss Tuesday 13th September, but hopefully you can all still practise our concert songs or you may prefer to have a change and choose other songs. The most important thing is to have fun!
I will see many of you on Monday 5th September for our workshop with Michael Rosenberg from 2-4pm.
