AGM +Rosendael

We have had a busy week which started off with Dee Ukes providing some entertainment at the start of the Dundee u3a AGM where there was an audience of over 80 people. Many thanks to Meg for taking this photo of us in action.

As this is our 10th Anniversary year, we went back to Rosendael which is for Scottish Veterans as this is where we performed our very first gig all those years ago. Below are some photos and a video of how we looked 10 years ago. We haven’t changed that much!! πŸ™‚

Dee Ukes performing at their first ever gig in Rosendael, November 2014

We had a fabulous trip down memory lane when we returned to Rosendael after a 10 year gap. Next-door neighbours from Regent Place Sheltered Housing were invited to join the residents. Staff, service users and visitors were certainly in the mood to join in with the fun and proved to be a terrific audience. We were especially thrilled to be joined by former group member John McCann who was instrumental in getting us our first gig. He and his wife Carol loved singing along with us.

Here we are in 2014! Where have the years gone? What a journey we have been on!

Forfar Disabled Club

We had a return visit to Forfar Disabled Club where we recognised many of the lovely people in attendance. It’s always a joy to see so many joining in with the fun, whether it be singing, doing actions or up dancing. We had around 6 people up doing the Slosh and even had a wheelchair dancer at one point. Everyone is treated to sandwiches and cakes at break time followed by the raffle. We managed to win 5 raffle prizes between us with myself being particularly lucky! Angus, one of the service users is a true gentleman and helps with handing out the prizes. It was a fabulous evening where yet again the power of music shone through. πŸ™‚

Dundee Congregational Church Guild

Guild members of Dundee Congregational Church certainly love their music and love to have fun. We had a great time with them this afternoon and had so many lovely comments afterwards.

I mentioned that this year’s donations to Dee Ukes will be used to provide music therapy sessions specifically for Glenlaw House Care Home which is for profoundly disabled children. Not only did we receive a donation from the Guild, but we also received donations from 4 individual members! What a generous group of people! Coffee, cakes and fruit rounded off a lovely afternoon despite the rainy weather. πŸ™‚

Carmichael House Care Home

Ann and I had the pleasure of entertaining at Carmichael House Care Home this afternoon. I had resident May sitting right beside me and what a character she is. She knows all the songs and really surprised me when she got up, with a little encouragement, to have a dance. Moira requested “You Cannae Shove Your Granny aff the Bus” so we duly obliged. More and more joined in with the singing and actions as the afternoon went on. It’s heart-warming to see so many faces light up with a little bit of music. πŸ™‚
