The Gables

Dee Ukes were back in Forfar again this week to entertain the residents of The Gables which is a Care Home for younger adults with a learning disability. One of the residents called Angus did a grand job of introducing us and thanking us at the end. He also turned out to be a bit of an expert playing the spoons. Carol just loved everything we did and literally joined us for several songs and even accompanied us on her accordion. Nicole proved to be a good timekeeper with the tambourine, once she had a bit of guidance from our Pat. Angus and Nicole also took to the dance floor. It turned out to be another fun afternoon, despite the rain. 🙂

Forfar Friendship Club

Dee Ukes were in Forfar today to entertain the lovely people from Forfar Friendship Club. All but one person had seen us several times before, but this didn’t stop them joining in again with great enthusiasm. Great fun!

Have a Lovely Weekend

Party Time @ Orchar!

The staff and service users at Orchar Care Home certainly know how to party. The room was adorned with balloons and banners. The service users were wearing colourful hats and garlands and the staff were wearing Hawaiian tops, flowers in their hair and grass skirts. To complete the party theme there were parrots, palm trees, fruit juice cocktails and an amazing spread of food. The occasion? Dee Ukes were coming to entertain! We are honoured. Those who were able, managed to fit in a number of dances and all seemed to enjoy the music and singing. One member of staff called Eileen, dashed off to get her dancing shoes and treated us all to a spot of Irish dancing. Fantastic! Many thanks to Beryl and Sandra for their hospitality and enthusiasm.

Going for Gold! & Tesco RCC AGM

What a week for Dee Ukes! Two amazing gigs in two days.

Dee Ukes @ Go for Gold Olympics 08/05/19

What a brilliant time Dee Ukes had in Menzieshill Community Centre where 20 teams of people from around the city congregated for a day of fun and games called Go for Gold Care Home Olympics organised by Dundee Voluntary Action.  The theme of the day was DC Thomson characters which resulted in many stripey outfits making an appearance! One of the volunteers called Oor Michael  was brilliant at getting everyone clapping along as well as showing off some impressive dance moves of his own. Our own Mame and Bette, who love to dress up, couldn’t resist coming along as Minnie Minx and Dennis the Menace.

Just spotted that we had a tiny mention in today’s Courier. Woohoo!

The next day we headed off to Perth where we started off our Stadium Tour. 🙂 Tesco Retired Colleague Community were holding their AGM in the Centenary Suite of McDiarmid Park Football Stadium. Another large crowd gathered from all around Scotland to enjoy a lovely lunch and we followed up with some rousing entertainment. Our audience soon joined in with all the fun. It was lovely to receive so many positive comments afterwards. What a terrific way to spend retirement! 🙂

More May Updates

For those who haven’t seen it on Facebook here is the grand total raised by Ann & Ken at the brilliant concert in St Luke’s Church on 3rd May. Well done to them both for organising such a brilliant evening of entertainment which included moving tributes to their much loved son Steven.

Quote from Ken “The final count is in. After making a donation to St Lukes who were kind enough to let us use the church for our Making Music for Steven concert, we have raised an amazing ÂŁ1650 for Maggie’s! Huge thanks to everyone who supported the evening by performing, buying tickets or just throwing money into the charity bucket. Special thanks to our brilliant MC Pat, who did so much to generate the very special atmosphere on Friday and huge thanks also to Colin who worked wonders with the sound. Ann and I can’t thank our very talented and supportive friends enough. Maybe we can all do it again sometime.”

Seven Drunken Nights: What a terrific evening we all had at the Caird Hall watching such a great show. Thirty of us filled the whole of row L and contributed greatly to the noise level from the audience. There may be a few hoarse voices this morning! 🙂

A few of us were lucky enough to get our photo taken alongside the brilliant multi-instrumentalist Paddy Ryan.

Last month we had the pleasure of entertaining at the Queen’s Hotel for an event organised by Claverhouse Rotary Group. I have recently received a couple of short video clips which clearly demonstrate the fun we all had. Many thanks to Aubrey Wood.

We also got a little mention in the Courier yesterday.

Great start to May!

1st May

We had a terrific time with the members of Muirhead & District Friendship Group in the Millennium Hall on the 1st of May. They certainly know how to join in with the fun. The feedback we got at the end was lovely.

St Luke’s Church was packed out for the charity concert “Making Music for Steven”, organised by Ann & Ken Peters, in aid of Maggie’s Dundee. It was a brilliant evening of entertainment with music from Dee Ukes, Ann, Ken & Syann, Strings Entwined, Pat Cunningham, The Unlikely Lads, Syann, Banjolele Buddies, David Wilson Wynn, Forever Friends, Just 3Folk, Alice Marra & husband Colin Reid. Pat Cunningham did a great job as MC for the evening as did Colin Cosgrove who was kept busy sorting out the sound for all of the acts.

We had a belated birthday celebration for Margaret Bond and were delighted to welcome a surprise guest! Denis also wrote and sang a special song for Margaret 007. Thanks Denis.
